FEMININE ENERGY♀︎⚡️, EQUALITY AND THE SOFT LIFE

The Urban Dictionary defines “The Soft Life” as this “Opposite of hard life. Where you make decisions that leave you feeling stress free and vibrating higher. Less about wealth (though it helps) and more about making good choices.” This is a term that has become all the buzz on social media, especially for black women!

And that is because black women have been living with the “strong black women” trope four years in western culture. It has become a battle cry for many of us as we leapfrog our way through difficulty, tragedy, trauma and drama.

I get it! The fact that many of these experiences of marginalization end oppression have not been by our own design, you have to find a way to put them in a positive perspective. Being a strong black woman is one perspective taking lens.

This lens is often juxtaposed with the western feminist lens of equality - equal pay, equal access, equal rights, etc. But there's a clear difference between equality and equity. Equality is making sure that everyone has the same thing while equity is making sure everyone has what they need.

My understanding of the world is that masculine and feminine energies are not equal but equitable. Meaning that they both have value and power yet they are comprised of opposing forces, therefore they cannot be equal in value but they can be equitable in their impact.

Another way of saying that is if masculine and feminine energy were equal they could both play the same roles, bring the same energy and share the same functions with no observable differences.

That is not the case! I'm not saying That men and women cannot perform the same tasks with a high degree of excellence and success. I am saying that these unique energies will always approach the same task differently based on their makeup - masculine energy focuses on action/doing and feminine Energy focuses on receiving/being.

I feel that many things are lost when we argue for equality that put us as women out of touch with “The Soft Life”. In astrology, there are six masculine and six feminine signs and the system speaks about the energetic action and make up. Each masculine sign is paired with a feminine sign to create a polarizing and dynamic balance based on equity.

Feminine signs are negative and receptive and rule the night. Their energy is introverted, emotional And focused more on internal structures and the inner realms of being. They also relate to the elements of earth and water - the elements that support the growth of life.

Masculine signs are positive and active ruling the day. They express extroverted, intellectual and action-oriented vibrations with a focus on the external and outer realms of being. fire and air signs are the masculine energy poles - elemental energy That can build, destroy and disseminate.

In nature you find equity more than equality, because equity supports relationship and interdependence. equitable structures can stand on their own but they are enhanced by relationship allowing each person to shine with their unique gifts and complementing in spaces where aspects are uneven. Like water seeking its level. Equality cannot do that - otherwise the distribution isn’t equitable anymore.

So I encourage all of my readers, especially those seeking the soft life to ask themselves about their true thoughts about equality and whether or not they perceive it to be a hindrance to experiencing The “Soft Life”. There are times when pushing for equality will cause to push past our soften boundaries, out of our feminine energy and into the hard life.
