THE SECRETS TO MAKING A LUCKY DAY OUT OF BLACK FRIDAY (AKA FRIDAY THE 13TH)
When most of us think of Black Friday we think after Thanksgiving shopping sales and deals. But there is another meaning of Black Friday, which is an alternate name for Friday the 13th. The mere mention of this day can cause some people to go into hysterics or a panic attack. There are buildings that have skipped the number of their floors and in the elevator to avoid giving the building a bad vibe. And airports like to skip this as a gate number too.
As a psychotherapist there is are actual phobias of the number and the day called triskaidekaphobia (the fear of the number 13) or paraskevidekatriaphobia or friggatriskaidekaphobia (the fear of Friday the 13th), No BS! The numbers are quite high for people who have some version of this fear in the US – close to 85%.
But what if we’ve got it wrong and there is a powerful energy that we can tap into or celebrate to change the outcome? In today’s post I’m going to focus on the bright spots of the numerology of 13, the day of Friday the 13th and then focus on how we can heal each day of the week through color therapy.
The Number 13
Since the middle age 13 has been labeled unlucky and its mostly by association. Due to their being 13 people at the Last Supper the majority of the Western world just don’t f*ck with this number!
Yet, Italy is a place where 13 is a lucky number tied to the Goddess Fortuna (one of my favorites) who rules fortune, favor and fertility. Instead they fear the number 17 due to the fact that it’s roman numerals spell out “vixi,” the Latin phrase for “I have lived,” which seems like a call for death.
Some believe that this is also the root of the Death card being numbered 13 in the Tarot. But as a long-time intuitive card reader, I welcome this card because every death is a rebirth and a call to transform.
I have never personally read for a person where this card has meant the death of a person in the physical world in over 20 years of doing this work. Yet I have seen powerful changes in life that bring about a metamorphosis, new energies and beginnings.
This reminds us that context is everything and that ours here in the US may be a bit morbid and anxiety provoking for nothing.
Friday the 13th
The number 13 already had a bad rap and then you add in that Friday was the day of the crucifixion and it’s no wonder there are phobias named after the number and this day. The part of me that likes to fight for the underdog feels bad for how parts of world sees all things 13. But the rationalist in me knows that two negatives can make a positive, so why can’t that be applied to this day?
Despite all the superstition and fears around this day, including the fact that life will be unlucky, there are a number of beloved actors and musicians that graced the world with their presence on Friday the 13th . The list below is of 13 people across a wide age range!
Steve Buscemi ☆ Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen ☆ Kat Dennings ☆ Julia Louis-Dreyfus ☆Darius Rucker ☆ Christopher Plummer ☆ Frances Conroy ☆ Max Weinberg ☆ Kate Walsh ☆ Nate Silver ☆ Tony Dow ☆ Didi Conn ☆ Peter Tork
